LITERACY

Description
The overarching aim for English in the National Curriculum is to promote high standards of language and literacy by equipping pupils with a strong command of both spoken and written language, and to develop their love of literature through the enjoyment of reading. It is due to this that we follow the Pie Corbett approach to teaching writing. We have, however, amended this to meet the needs of our pupils where we found it to be necessary. This programme focuses on a variety of writing styles and genres.

Assessment
Teacher assessments are continuous during LIVE TAUGHT lessons, marking of work and assignments and summative tests.

Homework
Homework will be given at the end of each week, usually in the form of written projects linked to our genre/style of writing.

Reporting
Parents have 24 /7 access to all of their children’s coursework. Additionally, the school holds 3 parent consultations per year – one each term.

The Teacher is an experienced and dedicated teacher who is very friendly and approachable. She enjoys her teaching and this really shows in lessons. Children enjoy their lessons and achieve exceptionally high test results.
