Option 1

LEVEL 3 CERTIFICATE IN LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT

Ref: CD062001
What is the course?
This qualification provides knowledge and skills in the main functional areas of management. It offers the chance to progress to further learning and the opportunity to join professional bodies such as the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) or the Institute of Administrative Management (IAM). It is a nationally recognised qualification, accredited through Open College Network West Midlands.

Who is it for?
Those who are working in – or looking to work in – their first line management role.

I’m not actually managing anyone yet though…
That’s fine. There is certainly an element of reflection in this course but even if you’re not leading people in a work setting currently, there may have been other times in your life when you have led others. The point of the course is that you’re learning about how best you can manage in a style that is true to you.

What are the units?
Understanding Leadership, Developing Self and Others, Motivation and Performance Management, Performance Management, Innovation and Change in the Workplace, Solving Problems and Making Decisions and How to Run Effective Meetings.

How much time will it take?
Around 140 guided learning hours. If you choose a classroom option, usually we meet once a month for a full day, which makes the course last for around ten months. There are lots of different ways the course can be structured and we would discuss your individual requirements before you signed up.

Are there any exams?
No. Your work isn’t graded either: you either pass or you are referred, which means you have an opportunity to resubmit your work. We will of course give you as much support as you need to pass!
The tutor worked as a senior manager at a charity for nine years, qualified with the Diploma To Teach In The Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) in 2011 and has been writing and delivering training for a variety of delegates for over ten years. The tutor has worked in a mainstream school, has lots of experience in Alternative Education and now runs a training provider with their business partner.
