Option 1
Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA)
Ref: CDCAV001
What is the course?
The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) has replaced two previous assessing qualifications: the A1 and A2. This is the qualification you need if you want to become an NVQ assessor – or any other sort of educational assessor.
We offer this course in the classroom or as distance learning, so you can learn in a way that suits you!
Who is it for?
The course is perfect for learners who have already begun or are looking to begin a career in assessing. You’ll gain an understanding of the principles and practice of assessment, learn how to effectively assess learners’ occupational competence and make sound assessment decisions. We will ensure you are fully prepared for your role as an assessor.
Interested in teaching as well? Combine this course with the Level 3 Award in Education and Training and save over £100.
What do I need if I want to do this course?
It’s important that you’re occupationally competent in the area you’d like to assess, which means that if you want to assess retail NVQs, you’ll need to have worked in retail within the last 10 years. You also need to be already working with at least one learner because we will need to observe you in the workplace with them.
We can give you advice and guidance if you’re not sure about either of these elements and, if you are able to travel to Worcester or Birmingham, we may be able to provide learners for you.
Please speak to us before signing up if you need help finding learners to work with.
How much time will it take?
Classroom option: we will meet for four full days in the classroom then we will observe you in the workplace on two or more occasions. Observations should take no more than an hour on each occasion.
The classroom sessions can take place in a variety of ways: four days back to back; over the course of two weekends; once a week for 4 weeks… speak to us about your requirements.
Distance learning: you'll have a workbook and assessment pack and you can work through at your own pace. The whole course should take around 30 hours.
You will have 9 months to complete your coursework.
Are there any exams?
No. Your work isn’t graded either: you either pass or you are referred, which means you have an opportunity to resubmit your work. We will of course give you as much support as you need to pass! Your work will be assessed by your tutor.
Who is my tutor?
The tutor worked in senior management at a charity for nine years, qualified with the Diploma To Teach In The Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) in 2011 and has been writing, assessing and delivering training for a variety of delegates for over ten years. She has worked in a mainstream school, has lots of experience in Alternative Education and now runs a Training Provider with her business partner.

The entire theoretical unit is completed in the classroom days, and your

What you get out of it
On completion of the course you will gain a nationally recognised assessing certificate, with the flexibility to assess in both the work and classroom environments.
The aim of the course is to give candidates the skills and knowledge to guide others through their learning process with constructive and accurate feedback. Assessing is an ever-growing field and this qualification is likely to open up several employment opportunities.

Course Summary
Only the TQUK Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) qualifies you to work as a fully qualified assessor. It's also known as the TAQA (Training, Assessment, and Quality Assurance), although the TAQA has been phased out in favour of the CAVA, which also replaces the A1/2 and D32/33 assessor qualifications.
The assessor qualification is meant to give students the skills and information they need to properly evaluate other students' vocational achievements. The qualification is appropriate for learners who are teaching, coaching, or training and need to assess vocational skills on the job or in a training organisation, FE College, or Adolescent Development Program...
A nationally recognised qualification is the TQUK Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement. It will be useful for people whose job duties include evaluating both occupational competence and vocational achievement. The qualification improves learners' employability, which can lead to internal progression or give an entrance point into new training/coaching roles if they are already working. Learners, Trainers/Assessors, Coaches, and Tutors are commonly employed. Learners can also become self-employed as a Freelance Assessor, working for a variety of clients.
Who should complete the qualification?
This qualification is appropriate for those who want to begin assessing or for those who are already assessing but need a nationally recognised assessor qualification to advance in their careers. Childcare, construction, leisure, teaching, hair and beauty, and hospitality are some of the areas that have a significant demand for skilled assessors.
How will I study?
The qualification will be assessed through a workbook, a portfolio of evidence and observation of occupational competence. Each learner is required to create portfolio evidence which demonstrates achievement of all the learning outcomes and the assessment criteria with each unit.
The time it takes to complete the framework will depend entirely on your commitment and motivation to complete the required tasks. Generally, learners complete a Level 3 in Assessing Vocational Achievement within 6-12 months.
Everyone can benefit from our Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) course, especially those who want to work in the education and training sector, are interested in the topic, or want to advance into a career as an assessor.
You must be at least 18 years old to participate.
You should have at least a level two in literacy or numeracy, or the equivalent.
You will be expected to have two learners on hand who you can assess in a real-world setting against the organization's established standards/criteria. National occupational standards, qualification components, and in-house standards are examples of standards/criteria.
